Domestic violence is more than hitting and punching! Did you know that in the year ending March 2025, 7.8% of adults (around 3.8 million people) in England and Wales, experienced domestic abuse. Women are disproportionately affected, with 9.5% experiencing abuse in the last year, compared to 6.5% of men.

Physical/Sexual Abuse
Physical abuse is intentional bodily injury. Some examples include slapping, pinching, choking, kicking, shoving or inappropriately using drugs or physical restraint.
Sexual abuse is non-consentual sexual contact (any unwanted sexual contact).

Emotional Abuse
Emotional abuse includes non-physical behaviours that are meant to control, isolate or frighten you. This may present in romantic relationships as threats, insults, constant monitoring, excessive jealousy, manipulation, humiliation, intimidation and dismissiveness.

Coercive Control
Coercive control is when a person with whom you are personally connected, behaves in a way which makes you feel controlled, dependent, isolated from friends and/or family or makes you feel scared.
Financial Abuse
Financial abuse is the mistreatment of someone in terms of their money or assets, such as their property. Financial abuse often occurs alongside other forms of abuse. It can include money being stolen or misused, fraud or putting someone under pressure in regards to their money or property.
